Modernization of Duty-Free Retail spaces in Terminal A and Terminal B
14.03.2020 Modernization of Duty-Free Retail spaces in Terminal A and Terminal B

The first major project was the modernization of the Duty-Free retail experience within Terminal A and Terminal B. A collaboration with Umdasch Group AG, a leading design company within travel retail, allowed Barcelona Cruise Port to bring a new identity to the terminals as well as improve guest experience.

Over 950 square meters of retail space is now offered between the two terminals, with personalized details in the interior design to honour special characteristics of the city.

Vibrant multicoloured floor mosaics are a subtle nod to the various buildings and monuments from Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Central zones of the retail areas, known as “La Plaza”, consist of a variety of local delicacies and artisanal souvenirs which directly reference the open-air markets that are fundamental to Spain’s culture. Through an open planned space, the Duty-Free retail area allows travellers to pass through in a more leisurely and relaxed manner which has proven to improve customer experience as seen through guest feedback and increase in sales. After seeing the success of the development in Terminal A and Terminal B, plans to renovate Terminal South, located in the World Trade Centre, are being discussed and finalized. A similar concept design will be applied and many of the popular features seen in the wharf terminals will be included. On top of that, new features such as sustainable green energy sources are also being considered.
